The Horton Plains Walking Trail is one of the most spectacular hiking experiences in Sri Lanka. Located inside Horton Plains National Park in the Central Highlands, the circular trail takes you through misty grasslands, montane cloud forests and beautiful highland scenery. The main trail is approximately 9 km long and can usually be completed in around 3 hours, although most visitors should allow 3–4 hours for photography and sightseeing.

Horton Plains Walking Trail Overview

The Horton Plains trail starts near the Horton Plains Visitor Centre and follows a circular route through the park. The landscape changes throughout the walk, from open patana grasslands to dense montane cloud forest and scenic viewpoints.
