How to Get to Horton Plains

Horton Plains is not a conventional jeep-safari park. Your vehicle takes you to the park entrance, and the famous attractions such as World’s End, Mini World’s End and Baker’s Falls are explored on foot along the designated walking trail.

Horton Plains National Park is situated in the highlands of central Sri Lanka at an elevation of around 2,100–2,300 metres above sea level. It is approximately 32 km from Nuwara Eliya and can be reached through the scenic highland areas of Ambewela and Pattipola.

How to Get to Horton Plains from Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara Eliya is the most popular base for visiting Horton Plains.

The road journey takes you through beautiful highland scenery, tea plantations, Ambewela and Pattipola before reaching the park.

Suggested route:

Nuwara Eliya → Blackpool → Ambewela → Pattipola → Horton Plains

The distance is approximately 32 km, although the actual travel time depends on road and weather conditions.


How to Get to Horton Plains from Ella

Ella is one of Sri Lanka’s most popular mountain destinations, and many travellers want to combine Ella and Horton Plains in the same itinerary.

A convenient option is:

Ella → Ohiya → Horton Plains → Nuwara Eliya

You can arrange a private vehicle from Ella, visit Horton Plains early in the day, complete the hiking trail and then continue to Nuwara Eliya.
